ONE // Flashback Friday
As of yesterday, it has been 4 years since I graduated from UNC Charlotte.  I had some great times in college, I mean great.  I came to Charlotte from a small town and lived it up in my college days (all while maintaining a good GPA I might add).  Most of my fun memories have something to do with Zeta Tau Alpha.  Mixers and formals, Greek week, fun nights in the house, recruitment, and spring break trips not to mention meeting some of my best friends.  College was a blast and I can’t believe it was so long ago, but honestly I like being a grown up just as much.  Cheers to all the grads of 2010!

I’m on a jewelry kick lately.  Who out there loves this site as much as I do??  They have super cute jewelry that doesn’t break the bank and one feature I love is that you accumulate points with every dollar you spend and can use that on future purchases.  AND I can’t forget to mention my favorite thing, free shipping & returns… why can’t more sites be like this?  Here are a few pieces I’ve had my eye on.

THREE // Need to clean out your closet?
Ryan is often my source of news and as he was reading the WSJ this past weekend, we discovered Liketwice.com.  This is a website where you can send in your clothes & handbags and get paid!  They send you a bag which you fill with your unwanted clothes (that are in tip-top condition) and then you will receive a quote for all of your items, and shipping is free.  The cool thing is that if they receive an item they don’t accept, they will go ahead and donate it.  If you want the item back, they charge you $5 to ship it.  You can also shop from their website as well.  
This is a pretty cool concept if you want to get rid of those old clothes but don’t want to leave the house.  I usually sell items on eBay but I’m pretty excited to give this a try.  Click here and get $10 just for signing up!

FOUR // Congratulations are in order
I just want to give a big congratulations to one of my best-est friends Logan.  She’s the one that passed the bar a few months ago (yay) and has just landed her first, real, full-time, big girl job as an attorney!!!  I am so very happy for her and also for the fact that she’ll be moving back to Charlotte to reunite with us.
FIVE // Beach scenes
Ryan, Sarah & I made an impromptu beach trip last weekend and yes, that’s me & Sarah doing the oh-so-cheesy jumping on the beach pic.  We were those girls.  I also whipped out the sand spikers Ryan got me for my birthday (find them here).  These are perfect little drink holders and kept my tumblers un-sandy!
I have 3 tests next week so you can guess what I’ll be doing for the majority of the weekend.  But on the bright side, only 1 week til this girl heads to Boston!  Have a great Friday y’all!

Clinical Experience #3: Hospital Internal Medicine

Yesterday’s hands-on patient time was spent at Central Harnett Hospital here in Lillington. It only has 50 beds (teeny, I know) but it’s brand spankin new and I will have my internal medicine rotation here, so I was pretty eager to check out the place!  Jeff & I did full histories & physicals on 2 patients and they were both super sweet!
Sometimes [all the time] I wonder where I will end up working once I graduate.  As of now, I’m thinking I’m more of an “office kind of girl”, but I’ll just have to wait til next year to figure that out.  My previous experience has been in the ER and in an orthopedic office, so I’ve been in both environments.  As of now, I’m most interested in dermatology, cardiology, and possibly urgent care (I get to go there next week!).  
I found this funny comic about medical specialties- the derm one is hilarious and may be my calling- what can I say, I’m a girly girl!

Who says that you have to spend hundreds of dollars for a pretty sundress?  While I like to splurge on the occasional outfit, I also realize that you can have nice things that don’t break the bank.  Being in school, I’m obviously on a budget so I try to buy a lot of versatile pieces.  One place that I sometimes overlook is Target, until I see all the cute clothes the roomie brings home! I absolutely love this dress- it’s a pretty pastel pink with white textured squares and even has a fun back cutout.   
I thought I would go with an extra girly look so I added a long strand of pearls and my monogrammed necklace of course!  If there is a good piece of jewelry to invest in, this is it.  I wear it all the time and it adds a touch of class to any outfit.

Clinical Experience #2: Trauma Surgery

Blood. Guts. Gun shot wounds. These are all some things that you may expect to see if you are working on the trauma surgery team in the hospital. Yesterday I headed up to WakeMed Raleigh to experience the hospital and even got to hang out with some of our own 2nd year students!

I was a little bummed when there weren’t any surgeries for us to go to, but we did get to assess some post-op patients on the floor.  We saw a patient who had a ruptured appendix and another who had her gallbladder removed due to pancreatitis/gallstones etc.  The cool thing was that both of them had classic, textbook presentations of their conditions. 
It was also nice to get reacquainted with the hospital setting since the last time I worked in one was over 3 years ago. I am excited to be coming back here in the fall for my emergency medicine rotation!

#Trending Tuesday: Scalloped Edges

#Trending Tuesday is officially here and I want to talk about one of my favorite trends right now… the scallop!  First of all, let me say that I love seafood and Ryan & I can put away some scallops, but this post isn’t about food (maybe another day).  I’m talking about the scalloped edges that are everywhere right now.  It’s simple yet looks feminine & polished and adds that little something extra to your outfit.

This J.Crew Factory dress has to be one of my favorite recent purchases.  It is classic enough to wear to work/class yet the scalloped edges make it fun enough to wear to a bridal shower (like I did last weekend) or to drinks after work.

The high neckline makes the perfect canvas for, you guessed it… a statement necklace!  This is one of my favorite accessories because it can instantly transform an outfit.  I almost always wear a neutral shoe (it lengthens these short legs) but I added a pop of color here with my yellow/green Kate Spade bag.

Good Times in the QC

This was such a fun weekend with some of my favorite people in Charlotte… is it really Monday already?? So not cool.  Here is a quick weekend recap:

Surprised:  I came home to a giant box from Ryan and opened it up to find this beauty!! He is the absolute sweetest.  He knows that I’ve been wanting a tote to use for clinicals/traveling and he tote-ally surprised me with this bag (see what I did there?).

Celebrated: On Saturday, Ryan’s sister had her bridal shower at Vivace in midtown.  We had some yummy food, cocktails, and showered Jessica with lots of fun gifts for the house!

Went Out:  Since the roomies were in town, I thought it was a good idea to show them the newest spot in town with a view so we headed to Fahrenheit.  Last time I went it was rainy & cold so it was nice to enjoy our drinks outside on the roof.

Ate:  On Sunday, we checked out the Fourth Ward Bread Co. for the first time.  We were excited to try the kronuts (croissants/donuts) but were a little disappointed when the couple in front of us bought the last two.  Oh and they told us they weren’t making anymore even though it was only 11am (they close at 3).  They are a new business so hopefully they will get all the kinks worked out but I do have to say that I ordered their bread pudding and it may have been the best I’ve ever had!!  Here’s a little look inside:

Relaxed: Sunday was the perfect pool day and I have to say it was pretty hard to get back in the car and make our way back to school.  We have our first two tests of the semester this week so wish me luck!
