I’ve done it a few times, and it really takes practice. The very first time I did it, they stayed on for 2 days. I was like, hold on a second.. what did I do wrong? I did my research & watched some YouTube videos and discovered the technique for gel polish. You have to paint with VERY thin layers and “cap the free edges” which means pulling the gel over the end of the nail’s free edge & sides of the free edge as well. Long story short, you can’t paint them like you would normal nail polish.
I have invested in some bond aid from OPI (it’s super cheap). This is the very first step you would do after filing/buffing your nails and it balances the pH of your nails so the polish will better adhere. In order to minimize as much UV exposure as I can, I went ahead and ordered some protective gloves to use when I apply the polish… and then my roommate Jeff calls me Michael Jackson. The whole polishing process takes me about 20 minutes, but I absolutely LOVE having dry nails afterwards. They are perfectly glossy- no more dents, lines, or dust somehow floating on your new mani. After some trial and error, I can now get them to stay on for about 1.5 weeks!
Pretty polish can be the best accessory and I highly recommend trying this out if you love rocking those glossy gel tips. Feel free to leave any questions/comments/advice and if you have a gel kit at home, I’d love to hear from you!
